Born in Australia in 1923, he was educated at Sydney University. He qualified in 1945 and held resident posts for two years at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He came to England in 1950 and was appointed house surgeon to the Infirmary at Derby; after taking the Fellowship in December 1951, he was promoted orthopaedic registrar. Promise of a distinguished career was cut short by illness. He flew back to his home in Australia, and died there in 1953 at the age of 30.
