Details
Monoranjan Duari was a general surgeon at Burnley General Hospital. Born in Howrah in India, he moved to the UK in 1954 after graduating in medicine. He did house jobs in Edinburgh and Devon and spent some time at the Hartley Hospital in Colne. After passing the fellowship of the college in 1963, he joined the staff of the Reedyford Memorial Hospital in Nelson, Lancashire. In 1978 he was appointed consultant surgeon at Burnley General Hospital and stayed there until his retirement in 1994. He was also a long serving trustee of the Pendleside Hospice, having supported it since its foundation. A keen supporter of Burnley Football Club, he had held a season ticket since 1959. He also frequently attended the matches at Burnley and Colne cricket clubs. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and learning Italian and French. While at the Reedyford he had met his wife Margaret, a nurse, and they married in 1965. She survived him and was 73 years old when he died on 24 December 2014 aged 84. He was also survived by their two daughters, one of whom was Meena Tomlinson, and four grandchildren.
