Details
Apprenticed to Joseph Jordan (qv) in Manchester, and finished at University College Hospital, London. He practised in Manchester and was Surgeon to the Chorlton-upon-Medlock Dispensary. On his retirement the Board of the Institution presented him with a handsome testimonial. For fourteen years he was the zealous and popular Secretary of the Lancashire and Cheshire Branch of the British Medical Association, rarely missing a meeting until persistent ill health forced him to retire, when he was the recipient of a handsome service of plate. Complication of disease obliged him to leave Manchester, and he went to live at Graythwaite Lodge, Belvedere, North Kent, but still whenever possible attended annual meetings of his branch of the Association. He died somewhat suddenly whilst on a visit to a friend on January 26th, 1871, and was buried at Bowden, Cheshire, Parish Church.
