Dipankar ‘Dip’ Sengupta was a general practitioner in Scarborough. He was born in Bengal and studied medicine in Calcutta. He went to England to specialise in surgery and completed a number of junior posts in London, Glasgow and Scarborough, including a registrar post in neurosurgery, in which he carried out research into cerebral blood-flow. He entered general practice in Eastfield, Scarborough, in 1974, where he at once became a great favourite with his patients, and stimulated many changes in his practice. In 1996 he suffered a dissecting aneurysm of the aorta, from which he survived. Predeceased by his wife, he died on 28 July 2005, leaving a son and daughter.
