Born on 4 May 1888, the eldest of the three sons of Edward Alfred Dingley, MD, MRCS, JP, of Wednesbury, Staffordshire, and Emily Habberfield, his wife. The second son John Ralph Dingley, MRCS became medical superintendent of the East Sussex Sanatorium at Robertsbridge. The third son died in infancy.

Studied at Guy's Hospital and practised at Frohenlog, Dolgelly, where he was Surgeon to the County Gaol and Workhouse of Merionethshire, Factory Surgeon, Surgeon to Quarries and Clubs, and to the Cader Idris Rifle Volunteers. Apparently practised in Marlborough Street, London, WC, for that address is given for the year 1840, but his address is omitted from the Fellow's *Register* and *Calendar*. His name appears last in the Fellow's *Calendar* for 1876, but no obituary or other notice of him has been traced.
