Jeremy Hopkins was an orthopaedic surgeon at Wellington Hospital, New Zealand. He was born on 30 December 1934, the son of Hugh Alfred Phelps Hopkins and Berys Dashwood Hopkins née Parsonson. He was educated at Scots College, Wellington and then studied medicine, qualifying in 1959. He was a house surgeon, house physician and then a surgical registrar in general surgery and orthopaedics at Wellington Hospital. He was subsequently an orthopaedic registrar in Wellington. He then went to the UK for further training. He was a senior house officer on the professorial surgical unit at St Mary’s Hospital, London from 1964 to 1965, and then, from 1965 to 1967, an orthopaedic registrar at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. He gained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1965. He returned to New Zealand in 1967. He was a full-time orthopaedic surgeon at Wellington Hospital until 1968, and then a visiting surgeon at the hospital. He was also a visiting orthopaedic surgeon at Hutt Hospital and Wairau Hospital, Blenheim and a clinical lecturer at Wellington School of Medicine. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1968. He was married to Judith Anne (née Conley). Hopkins died on 21 August 2005 in Auckland at the age of 70.
