Seamus Morgan O’Riain studied medicine at the National University of Ireland and qualified MB BCh in 1954. He did various house appointments at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London, the Hammersmith Hospital and became a senior registrar at the Wessex Centre for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Odstock Hospital in Salisbury. He passed the fellowship of the college in 1963 and was appointed consultant plastic surgeon in Dublin to the Children’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and St James’ Hospital. He was a member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. He died in St Vincent’s Private Hospital on 29 September 2019, survived by his wife Roberta, children Helen, Fiona, Paul, Sarah, Vanessa and Sarah Naylor (New Zealand); grandchildren Séamus, Aoife, Jack, Ethan, Eva, Annabel, Christina, Jack, Tom, Emily and Alice; sons-in-law Conor, Justin, Tim, and Brian and his great grandchildren.
