Details:
Abdul Mannan was a surgeon in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was born in Dacca, then part of India, on 1 August 1927. It was during his childhood, when he would pass through neighbourhoods on his way to school and would see people who truly needed help, that he decided his life’s ambition would be to help the less fortunate. He began his medical education in Dacca and later moved to England, where he continued his studies, gaining his conjoint qualification in 1964 and becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1967. Later, he moved with his family to Canada, and practised his profession in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Throughout his life, his primary objective was to help the poor and those less fortunate. He dedicated himself going to Bangladesh every few years and worked with local doctors to give free medical treatment and medicine to the locals who couldn't afford to see a doctor. He also helped to establish orphanages. He strongly believed in God and was grateful for the ability and opportunity to fulfil his primary objective. In his free time, he liked reading, gardening and working with tools. He married in 1956. His wife’s maiden name was Khatun. They had two daughters and three grandchildren. Abdul died peacefully on 4 April 2019 in Surrey, British Columbia. He was 91 years old.
