El-Amir (‘Amir’) El-Zaher El-Attar was a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Glasgow. He was born in Egypt and arrived in the UK aged 17 with no qualifications and no English. He gained degrees in dentistry and medicine and became a surgeon at the Canniesburn plastic surgery unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He became a fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1971. He was also a fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. El-Attar died on 5 June 2018 in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Stirling. He was survived by his wife Anita, children and grandchildren.
