Details:
Raymond Jack Edler was the lead consultant orthodontist at Guy’s Hospital, London. He was born on 18 September 1946 in London, the son of Rudolf Gerhard Edler, who was born in Berlin, Germany and Rita Edler née Jaffe. He studied dentistry at the Royal Dental Hospital and qualified in 1969.
He was a registrar at the Hospital for Sick Children, London from 1973 to 1976 and then a senior registrar for three years at the Kent and Sussex Hospital.
In 1979 he was appointed as a consultant orthodontist at Ashford Hospital, a post he held until 1997. From 1979 to 1985 he was a consultant at the Royal Dental Hospital. Also from 1979, he was on the staff of the maxillofacial unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital, London, and from 2003 he was a consultant at Kingston Hospital, Surrey and lead orthodontist at Guy’s Hospital, London.
He was a member of the British Orthodontic Society, chairman of the consultant orthodontists’ group in 2003 and vice chairmen of the ethics committee from 2000. He was treasurer of the European Orthodontic Society from 1992 to 2001. In 1996 he became a fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In 1973 he married Sharon Wien. They had two daughters, Naomi and Joanna. Edler died on 24 January 2015. He was 68.
