Details:
Alan Ferguson Hamilton was a consultant dental surgeon for Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals. He was born on 17 February 1920 in Edinburgh, the son of Ferguson Hamilton, who had served in the First World War, and Margaret Lamont Hamilton née Young. He studied dentistry in Edinburgh and qualified with the LDS in 1941.
From January 1942 Hamilton served in the dental branch of the Royal Air Force as an emergency flying officer. Following demobilisation, he gained his higher dental diploma in 1949 and his fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1955. He was an assistant surgeon at the plastic surgery and jaw injuries centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital prior to his appointment at Cheltenham.
In 1961 he married Betty R Robinson. Hamilton died on 6 June 2018 in Cheltenham. He was 98.
