Reginald Denis Howard was an orthodontist from Richmond, Surrey. He was born in London on 30 November 1929, the son of Frank Herbert Howard, a salesman, and Ethel Howard née Harding. He studied dentistry and qualified with the LDS in 1954 and the BDS in 1955. He became a fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1959. He went on to study for the diploma in orthodontics, qualifying in 1960. He wrote papers on orthodontic topics and in 1981 he co-wrote a paper on the history of orthodontics in the *British Dental Journal* (‘Orthodontics – the last hundred years’ *Br Dent J*. 1981 Jul 7;151[1]:14-9). In 1956 he married June Sita Yvonne Bery. Howard died on 11 January 2016. He was 86. His last known address was in Richmond, Surrey.
