Born at sea on May 24th, 1816, and was educated at St George's Hospital, where he became twelve months' surgical pupil to George Gisborne Babington on January 20th, 1837. He entered the Bengal Army as Assistant Surgeon on February 17th, 1839, being promoted Surgeon on March 15th, 1853, Surgeon Major

Studied at St Bartholomew's Hospital and at University College, London. He practised at Dartmouth, where he became Admiralty Surgeon and Agent, Medical Superintendent of Quarantine and Emigration Officer, and was Coroner for Dartmouth. He died on April 17th, 1885.

The son of D R Pughe, and bore the name Pughe, or Pugh, honoured in Welsh literature. He studied at St Thomas's Hospital, and practised at Aberdovey and Bryn Awel. Practised at Kidderminster, and was Surgeon to the Worcestershire Friendly Institution. After becoming FRCS he emigrated to Canada, and died in Toronto on December 2nd, 1885.
