Born on October 6th, 1807, and was for twelve months from February 4th, 1829, a pupil of Sir Benjamin Brodie’s at St George’s Hospital. He served as surgeon’s mate on board the *Vansittart* (1830-1831) and as surgeon on board the *Prince Regent* (1832-1833).
