Educated at St Bartholomew's Hospital and in Paris. He practised at 31 Phillimore Place, Kensington, and was for a long time in partnership with his next-door neighbour, George Hunt Orton (qv). He died at Phillimore Place on May 10th, 1877.

Practised at Hitchin, Herts, where, at the time of his death, he was Deputy Coroner for North Herts; Surgeon to the North Herts and South Beds Infirmary; and Medical Officer of Health for Hitchin. He died at Hitchin on March 1st, 1885.

Became a Naval Surgeon, served as Staff Surgeon on board HMS *Phoebe*, and retired with the rank of Deputy Inspector-General. He died on August 1st, 1894.
