Michael Naunton Morgan combined his surgical skills with those of a first class cricketer. The son of Sir Clifford Naunton Morgan, a former vice-president of the college, and his wife Ena Muriel, née Evans, he was born on 15 May 1932 in Marylebone. After attending Marlborough College School, he studied medicine at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital. After house jobs at the Westminster Hospital and St Mark’s, he eventually become a renal surgeon at the Westminster. He played in the Minor Counties Championship for Berkshire in 1950 and went on to play for Cambridge University against Middlesex at the Fenner Cricket Club the following year. In 1954 he again played first-class cricket for Cambridge, making twelve appearances in all and took 26 wickets for the university as a right arm fast-medium bowler. His final match in first class cricket was playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club against Cambridge in 1957. For another two years he continued to play minor county cricket for Berkshire. He died on 1 October 2017 aged 85.
