The son of a well-known Winchester surgeon; studied at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals under Cline and Astley Cooper. He then followed his father in practice at Winchester, and from 1827 was Surgeon to the Winchester County Hospital, having as colleagues Henry Giles Lyford (qv) and Charles Mayo (qv)

Educated at St Thomas's Hospital, and practised at Winchester and at Brighton. At the time of his death he was Consulting Surgeon (having previously been Surgeon) to the Hampshire County Hospital, County Gaol, and Police, Winchester. He died at Brighton on September 10th, 1873.
