John Ping Fai Chin was a general surgeon from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born on 20 December 1929 in Hong Kong, the son of Wilmot Cecil Chin and Yung Tai Chin Cheung. His father was born in Jamaica.
Chin studied medicine in London and gained his MB BS in 1956. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1966. He was also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
In 1958 he married Barbara Hyacinth Mullett in New York. She died in 1978.
Chin died on 27 September 2015 in Toronto at the age of 85. He was survived by his wife Helen Doherty, children Loretta, Richard and Jacqueline, and three grandchildren.
