The son of D R Pughe, and bore the name Pughe, or Pugh, honoured in Welsh literature. He studied at St Thomas's Hospital, and practised at Aberdovey and Bryn Awel. He served as District Medical Officer of the Machynlleth Union, Medical Officer of Health for Towyn, and Medical Officer for the Cambria
