Harold Hugh Gamlin Francis was a consultant obstetric and gynaecological surgeon at the United Liverpool Hospitals, and a senior lecturer at the University of Liverpool Medical School. He studied medicine at Otago University, New Zealand, qualifying MB BS in 1944. He was a house surgeon at Wellington Hospital, and then went to the UK for further training. He was a senior registrar at Liverpool Maternity Hospital before he was appointed to his consultant post. During his career he held a New Zealand travelling scholarship in obstetrics and gynaecology from the University of Otago and a Bernhard Baron travelling scholarship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1960. He was a fellow of the North of England Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society. Predeceased by his wife, Winifred, Harold Hugh Gamlin Francis died at home on 31 May 2011, aged 92.
