Educated at St Bartholomew’s, Guy’s, and St Thomas’s Hospitals. He was a Member of the Epidemiological Society, and practised at Billingborough, Folkingham, Lincolnshire, where he died in 1867, being succeeded by his son Thomas.

Was at the time of his death Senior Surgeon to the Blue Coat School and Consulting Surgeon-Accoucheur to the Ladies' Charity, Wardour Street, London. He had practised at 30 Rodney Street, Liverpool.
