See below for an amended version of the published obituary: Arthur John Craig Latchmore, known as John, was a general surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary and Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. His father was Ernest Shillitoe Latchmore, a bank manager. His mother, Alice Latchmore née Craig, was a general practitioner in Halifax, and one of the first women doctors to qualify from Edinburgh University. There were other medical connections in the family, including Thomas Windsor, an ophthalmic surgeon in Manchester in the 19th century, and Egbert Morland, editor of *The Lancet*, who was a cousin. Latchmore was educated at Bootham School, and then studied medicine at Leeds, where he took an external London University degree, qualifying in 1929. He held house posts at Leeds General Infirmary and Leeds Maternity Hospital. In 1933 he was a senior house surgeon at Southport Infirmary, and then spent the next two years as a resident surgical officer at Ancoats Hospital in Manchester. In 1935 he was a temporary resident surgeon at Oldchurch Hospital, Romford. He then returned to Leeds, as a resident surgical officer at the General Infirmary. From 1936 to 1940 he was a surgical tutor at Leeds, and, in 1940, he became an assistant surgeon at the General Infirmary and surgeon to Clayton Hospital, Wakefield. In April 1942 he joined the RAMC. He became a lieutenant colonel in charge of a surgical division, 70th General Hospital, Pompeii, Italy, and then 48th General Hospital at Rimini and Graz, Austria. He was demobilised in 1946 and was appointed as a surgeon to Skipton General Hospital. The next year he became a surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary, and in 1948 he joined Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. Outside medicine he enjoyed golf and gardening. In December 1941 he married Joyce Mary Raper. They had three children, Gillian Ann, John Guy and Andrew Windsor. John Latchmore died on 5 February 1998, aged 91.
