Welcome to Voices of Surgery: RCS England oral history

The memories of individual surgeons are an integral part of the history of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The Voices of Surgery Oral History Project aims to capture and celebrate the lives and experiences of surgeons and record the stories behind advancing surgical care in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Project builds on the work of Plarr’s Lives of the Fellows, RCS England’s collection of obituaries of fellows. Started in book form in 1930 and now on the Internet, the Lives give a unique history of the College, one fascinating life story at a time.

The Voices of Surgery Oral History Project will be a valuable historical resource for researchers, academics, family members and the wider public, creating a record of the history of surgery and inspiring the next generation of surgeons
